«Thistle» is the first song off our upcoming album, «The Night Depository».
The song is about finding and holding on to the place where you thrive. Or, if not a place, then a mindset, a sense of selfhood, or another person.
Frank:
«When I travel, I do so to find something that resonates with me. Usually, these places have a rugged magic to themselves. One of those places has always been Scotland, because of its northern beauty, its vibrant music scene, and its friendly people.
The thistle is the national flower of Scotland, and the silver thistle found in the Swiss Alps is one of my favorite flowers. It represents a prickly, uneasy beauty that persists. Some might call it a weed, and it often grows between cracks, but it has its place and its use. The song reflects these qualities. It embraces otherness, coming to terms with who and what you are, and the ups and downs that come with it.»
Musically, the original, longer version (now called «The Long Longing Edit») certainly reflects that as well: it’s unwieldy and meandering yet has its purpose. Sandro Corbat on guitar and Andrea Brunner on e-harp add layer upon layer, culminating in satisfying noise, only to strip it back down again. Even in its short edit, «Thistle» is multifarious: it’s folk-esque, noisy, quietly queer, and “a bit much”. It marks the musical starting point of our journey as a band, and we’re happy to have you along.

Everyone should know Emilie Zoé. Emilie's music is raw and tender, like an open wound or a bruise you got from a great adventure that you remember fondly. frèrelumière
We are absolutely bewitched by Kathryn Joseph's moody flow and her intimate words. Even when reduced to the max, the poetry that she whispers into your ear sounds grand and vast. frèrelumière
As a Swiss band with a harpist, we have to steer your eyes and ears toward Kety Fusco, who broke down barriers for Swiss artists and harpists in general. frèrelumière
